Unprecedented volumes moving through the ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach have raised significant challenges over preceding months and resulted in a worsening port congestion which is expected to continue into 2021.  As port congestion is want to do, the issues are now widening to include port congestion in Seattle and Tacoma.

The resulting issues can be summarised as below and may cause delay to both inbound and outbound cargo timelines.

  • Equipment shortage
  • Chassis shortage
  • Terminal congestion and long wait times for inbound/outbound drops
  • Limited time windows for cargo/container lodgement
  • Vessel cut-off closures without prior notice
  • Driver shortage
  • Rail delays
  • Vessels omitting ports

MUA Work Stoppages

 

The industry continues to face challenges posed by Port congestion in Australia and the corresponding vessel schedule delays emanating from the same source. Work stoppages will only add pressure to the existing issues , but it is clearly a necessary evil as stevedores attempt to reach an enterprise agreement with the MUA. Our teams continue to work tirelessly to find solutions to best meet client targets.

Freight & Trade Alliance (FTA) has compiled the below information, from notices received, in regards the Annual General meeting for members of the Maritime Union of Australia (MUA)

MUA Annual General Meeting (AGM) stop work meetings  

Patrick Terminals

On Tuesday, 24 November all Patrick terminals will have a four, longer in Sydney, approved stop work meeting to allow Maritime Union of Australia members to attend their AGM.

The extent and details of the stop work meetings for each terminal are listed below.
Tuesday, 24 November
Fremantle Terminal, 9:00 am to 1:00 pm
Sydney Terminal, 6.00 am to 2:00 pm (first zone back 3.00pm) During this time the terminal will utilise the closure to perform a required shut down for the new rail project
Melbourne Terminal, 9:30 am to 1:30 pm
Brisbane Terminal, 7.00am to 11.00am
All terminal operations will cease during this period

DP World Australia terminals

 

DP World will have a four to five -hour approved stop work meeting to allow Maritime Union of Australia members to attend their AGM.

The extent and details of the stop work meetings for each terminal are listed below.
Tuesday, 24 November
Fremantle Terminal, 9:00 am to 2:00 pm
Sydney Terminal, 9:30 am to 2:00 pm
Melbourne Terminal, 9:30 am to 1:30 pm
All terminal operations will cease during this period
Brisbane Terminal,  7:00 am to 11:00 am
Vessel operations and road operations to the Old Terminal are affected. Road operations to the automated modules will continue as normal
