BULLETIN : VESSEL SCHEDULE DISRUPTION AT AUSTRALIA PORTS – FURTHER UPDATE : DEHIRE DEPOTS
.
Major carriers have today published further negative impacts unfolding in Sydney de-hire depots due to the ongoing vessel disruptions.
With current severe disruption to vessel scheduling in Australia, large volumes of empty containers are stockpiling within Sydney de-hire depots. This has been caused by a delay on evacuation of stocks, as could be expected on outbound voyages during normal shipping periods.
Due to the extraordinary events, there is now a severe lack of capacity within depots to allow return of empty containers. It has become increasingly difficult to gain slots to return empties and we expect to face delays on same as depots can only receive in empty containers relative to their outbound volume.
Regretfully, this may result in containers not being returned within the shipping line detention time and therefore, containers may incur fees of same.
Our team is working diligently to have containers off wharf in the shortest time possible , collected after unload as soon as possible, and seeking the earliest opportunities for de-hire thereafter.
While we will continue to work the system to the best of our ability we may not be able to overcome each circumstance. In the event shipping line detention is incurred we will have no choice but to pass on the additional fees. There may also be occasions where the truck journey to de-hire becomes a *futile* attempt and this may also incur an additional charge.
For those clients who utilise another forwarder for the freight/container bookings, we will have no control or visibility over the number of free days your container is contracted for and you may need to take this into consideration when thinking on the impact of the above. Please seek that information from your shipper/the arranger of the container so you understand the timeframe you will be operating under.
Should you have any queries on the above , please contact our office directly.
We understand the difficulties facing importers at this time , and we will do everything we can , within our control, to minimize the negative effects of these extraordinary events.
