Oceanfreight Wharf Infrastructure Fees

Effective January 1, 2025, there will be an increase in landside charges for both inbound and outbound cargo, as reported by container terminal operators.

Container terminal operations and investments are inherently capital intensive. Nevertheless, there is a significant lack of transparency regarding whether foreign shipping lines are adequately contributing to the rising costs of terminal operations and maintenance, as well as funding necessary capital improvements. Concerns persist that the valid financial burdens of these expenses are being unfairly transferred to landside fees.

Unless Federal and State Governments acknowledge the necessity to regulate the pricing framework of our essential international container cargo gateways, the existing system is likely to continue. Landside cost increases will be implemented unilaterally, with minimal negotiation and limited public disclosure or justification.
